Over the next two years, Amazon will invest 1 billion euros in Belgium to enable same-day delivery. The e-commerce giant also wants to improve its services to Belgian SMEs.
Consumers are demanding
Belgians will soon be able to have their Amazon orders delivered to their homes on the same day. To this end, the retailer is investing €1 billion in logistics infrastructure, among other things. The company will also be recruiting additional staff in Belgium. Amazon currently employs around 400 people in the country, at its distribution center in Antwerp and a research center in Hamme.
Belgians are demanding faster delivery, says country manager Eva Faict in De Tijd: “When customers see that a product can be delivered in one day instead of two, they order more.” She emphasizes that Amazon is also a growth accelerator for Belgian SMEs, which can grow internationally more easily via the platform. Loop Earplugs, among others, owes its international breakthrough in part to Amazon. The earplug manufacturer is now the market leader in the US.
Amazon announced the news about the investment on Tuesday in San Francisco, where a trade mission led by Princess Astrid is currently on tour.
