A vending machine evolved into a smart convenience store, more cost-efficient and customer-friendly than Amazon Go: that is the project of US startup VenHub, which is aiming for partnerships with other retailers.

The robotic arms that retrieve products from shelves and drop them into the pick-up hatch offer an exciting spectacle for users and passers-by. VenHub is the brainchild of former Amazon employee Shahan Ohanessian, who recognised that existing autonomous shops, such as the very expensive and complex Amazon Go, do not really meet the expectations of consumers and retailers.
