Amazon closes web shop platform

Criticism

Amazon launched the service several years ago, in order to give smaller retailers an opportunity to open a web shop quickly and for a relatively small fee. Participating retailers have to pay 79 dollars per month, on top of 2 % of all transactions costs.

The service however was not a big success and a number of retailers have now moved to other competitors. Its main point of criticism was that every store was under the Amazon banner, removing any form of independence, while the web shops’ functionality was also lacking.

Amazon has not commented on the news officially, but the retailers have already been notified of the changes. The service will apparently terminated by July 2016.
