Does your company meet its recycling and information obligation?

(Advertorial) Companies that put packaging on the market are often unaware of some of their legal obligations. You can easily meet those obligations by becoming a Fost Plus member.

Companies often unknowingly do not meet their recycling and information obligation

Does your company put more than 300 kg of packaging on the market? If you package household products or you have them packaged by a third party, if you import packaged products or if you import or produce service packaging, your company is seen as the party responsible for packaging. This comes with a number of legal obligations.

What are your legal obligations?

Companies responsible for packaging must meet a number of legal obligations, including:

  • Recycling and take-back obligation: companies must achieve a fixed annual recycling percentage for the packaging they put on the market.
  • Obligation to provide information: companies must inform the Belgian Interregional Packaging Commission (IPC) about their type(s) of packaging and the recycling percentages they have achieved.

Meeting your obligations

In theory, your company can set up its own system to collect, sort and recycle your packaging, but this is not feasible in practice. The simplest way to comply with the recycling and take-back obligation and the obligation to provide information is to become a Fost Plus member. Fost Plus will use your annual membership fee to fund the collection, sorting and recycling of your household packaging.
