French retailer Carrefour has confirmed rumours that it plans to cut a thousand jobs in France. All 979 redundancies are at the offices: no jobs will be lost in shops or warehouses.
Voluntary redundancies
The rumours about the reduction of the workforce at Carrefour France were confirmed today. The retailer told trade magazine LSA it had to do the reorganisation to “sustainably safeguard its competitiveness“, to perform better, become more agile and serve shops more easily.
Up to 979 jobs will be cut, all in France and only at the company’s offices. The locations likely to be affected are the Paris headquarters in Massy, Evry (Essonne), Mondeville (Calvados) and regional headquarters.
A collective redundancy procedure will be launched in mid-September, in agreement with the trade unions. All redundancies will be voluntary. Some 7,000 people currently work at Carrefour’s headquarters.
