[In the picture] TEDi expands in Europe: what can we expect?

German non-food discounter and pound shop TEDi is coming to Belgium this year, while also planning expansions in France and the United Kingdom. The formula is often compared to Action, but how true is that? RetailDetail went to take a look in a Spanish TEDi store.

Paint and markers from 1 euro

Before this year is over, TEDi wants to open five to ten shops in Belgium. The chain is looking for stores around 1,000 sqm, both in the French-speaking and Dutch-speaking parts of the country. The discount chain is still unknown in Belgium, but the German chain has been a household name for some time in some other countries.

In Spain, the chain already has a rich presence: in Valencia alone, TEDi has fifteen branches. Despite that abundance, stores are almost always crowded. RetailDetail therefore went there to take a look.

For odd jobs or crafts, Spaniards flock to TEDi, just as much as people in the Benelux go to Action. The shopping experience, pricing and assortment are very similar. Customers will find party supplies, cheap textiles and DIY materials – at least if they are willing to browse. Also noteworthy are certainly the “from 1 euro” racks, with which the chain puts even more emphasis on price.

The black box roughly covers the centre of Valencia, the yellow box indicates the TEDi shop where these photos were taken.
