The Spanish discount retailer PrimaPrix is closing its three stores in Lille, northern France. The French store network will thus shrink from 31 to 28 locations; this marks the first major restructuring since the chain launched in France in 2022.
Putting the brakes on
The stores on Gambetta, in Euralille, and on rue des Tanneurs will close in the coming days, reports retail analyst Olivier Dauvers. The closures follow several earlier, more isolated moves: PrimaPrix had already withdrawn from Meaux and closed its store in Pontault-Combault this spring—notably, the chain’s very first French location. Yet Lille is also a sensitive market for PrimaPrix, as it was the first French provincial city where the retailer opened three locations at once in 2024.
The French operations suffered a net loss of 12 million euros in 2025, bringing the cumulative loss over four fiscal years to 24 million euros. Revenue totaled 37 million euros, or less than 2 million euros per full fiscal year per store.
Yet just last year, the chain was still in full expansion mode. In 2025, PrimaPrix opened no fewer than fourteen stores in France, including locations in Grenoble, Saint-Étienne, Le Mans, and Angers. This year, the pace slowed sharply: since January, only four new stores have been added, all in the Île-de-France region.
