FrieslandCampina CEO to head Unilever

Unilever has found a successor for the departing CEO Alan Jope: Dutchman Hein Schumacher. Today, he is still top executive at FrieslandCampina.

1.85 million euros

Last September, Jope announced that he would retire this year. On 1 July, Schumacher will indeed take over from him, after a one-month run-in period. Schumacher has been the candidate of choice for a while, becoming a non-executive director at Unilever in October.

The 51-year-old Dutchman started his career at Unilever, before stringing together several large FMCG companies. After Dutch retailer Ahold, Schumacher spent more than a decade at (Kraft) Heinz. In 2014, Schumacher became CFO of FrieslandCampina, and he rose to become CEO four years later.

For the sake of transparency, Unilever has revealed that the new CEO will earn 1.85 million euros a year, with added possible bonuses and a share package – “to compensate” for the loss of bonuses at his previous employer.

Still, CEO Dirk Van de Put remains cautious: American consumers, in particular, are keeping a tight...
