Belgian chocolate producer Leonidas is moving all its production and its headquarters to Nivelles, south of Brussels. This should enable Leonidas further expansion and more R&D possibilities.
Increasing research and product range
Chocolates producer Leonidas is moving away from Brussels. A new complex consisting of a factory, warehouse, offices and a space for research and test production will be built on a site of five hectares in Nivelles-Nord. The chocolate brand plans to conduct this research in collaboration with universities and other parties, Belgian newspaper De Tijd reports.
Although the Greek-Belgian chocolate maker boasts 1,300 shops in forty different countries, Leonidas has only one factory. The move is therefore of great importance and is being treated with caution. As the summer is a quieter time, the first part will move in the summer of 2024 and the second part only in the summer of 2025.
At the new site, the brand plans to set up additional production lines to increase capacity. Efficiency and product range should grow as well over time. “With the new production unit, we are starting a new chapter in the rich history of Leonidas”, Managing Director Philippe de Selliers stated. The move had been planned earlier, but was put on hold as the Covid pandemic hit chocolate sales hard. Only when sales picked up again this summer did the management decide to go ahead with the project.
