Amazon expands in-garage deliveries

General13 November, 2020

Amazon wants to make contactless in-garage deliveries available to more people. The company is expanding its so-called ‘Key by Amazon In-Garage Delivery service’ to more than 4,000 American cities.

For Prime members

In-garage deliveries are exclusively reserved for Prime-members. The web giant now announces in a press release that the service will be rolled out in numerous additional cities in the United States including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, Boston, Atlanta, Phoenix and Washington. As a result, millions of additional customers can now have their parcels delivered to their garage.

In order to use the service, customers need a myQ-compatible garage door opener in addition to a Prime subscription. All they need to do is link the myQ app to Amazon’s Key app to securely have parcels delivered to the garage. Customers will be notified on their smartphone when the parcel has been delivered.

Until now, only non-food items were eligible for in-garage deliveries. But the e-tailer is rapidly changing that too. Since yesterday, customers from five cities (certain regions in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle) can also have their groceries from Whole Foods Market or Amazon Fresh delivered to their garage, contact-free and securely.
