Tomorrow, Decathlon will open its first shop that is entirely dedicated to running. The sport has become ever more popular in the last few years.
Test site
The Decathlon Running site measures 160 sqm and sells both private brands (Kiprun, Kalenji) and well-known international brands (Asics, Hoka, Mizuno). The shop stocks more than 120 references. Customers can not only buy shoes and sportswear here, but also have their running technique analysed. With this shop in Bordeaux, the retailer aims to meet the needs of more experienced runners, who are less well served by the retailer’s traditional offerings.
This shop aims to offer a unique customer experience, with services tailored to running enthusiasts, Decathlon told local website Le Bonbon. “Bordeaux is an excellent site to test this format: the popularity of running has exploded in the region since the pandemic.” The French running market has grown 10% from 2023 to 2024, magazine LSA reports. With this new concept, Decathon is therefore cleverly capitalising on the ever-increasing popularity of running.
