IKEA to open in New Zealand in December

In December, IKEA will open its first-ever New Zealand store in Auckland. At the same time, the Swedish chain will open 29 pick-up points across the country.

Many familiar elements

The 34,000 sqm store will offer 7,500 items on two floors, with a third floor entirely occupied by parking spaces. Of course, there will also be an Ikea restaurant, and the retail chain emphasises that both classic and vegetarian meatballs will be offered. An exclusive New Zealand offering will also follow later.

The Buy Back service will be available from the start: customers can immediately return used IKEA items there. In addition, products from other furniture retailers will also be accepted. In this way, the Swedes want to make rehoming easier and more sustainable.

For Ikea, the move is partly a leap into the unknown: never before has the chain launched a nationwide offer of pick-up points and home delivery straight from the start – simultaneously with the first store opening.

New Zealand will be IKEA’s first new market since 2021, when it opened a store in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana.
