Target gives artificial intelligence its own executive role

Target has appointed its first chief AI officer. The American retailer has poached Chandhu Nair from the home improvement chain Lowe’s and tasked him with implementing artificial intelligence more broadly and in a more coordinated manner throughout the organization.

With this new role, Target aims to bring its various AI initiatives more closely together. In addition to serving as chief AI officer, Nair will also become senior vice president. At Lowe’s, he was responsible for stores, data, AI, and innovation. Previously, he worked for companies including Staples and Gap.
