Launch of Wero payment solution for e-commerce delayed

General21 October, 2025

The European payment app Wero, which is already available in several countries for payments between individuals, will only be available for e-commerce payments from next year.

More time needed

Wero was launched last year as a European alternative to American payment services such as Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal. Participating banks already offer Wero for payments between individuals. According to the European Payments Initiative (EPI), the organization behind Wero, more than 43.5 million Europeans already use the digital payment solution, and more than 100 million transactions have already been processed.

The payment solution was also set to be rolled out for e-commerce this year: first in Germany, then in Belgium in October, and later in France and other countries. However, it now appears that the launch will be postponed until next year. “Some stakeholders in the EPI ecosystem need more time to complete their implementation, and we want to finalize testing with all participants as we want to be sure of the quality before the launch,” according to the explanation given to the Belga press agency.
