AliExpress is not doing enough to prevent the sale of counterfeit goods and unsafe children’s toys on its platform, says the European Commission. If the Chinese webshop does not take adequate measures, a heavy fine will follow.
Not transparent enough
In March last year, the European Commission launched an investigation into AliExpress for selling illegal and dangerous counterfeit products, including fake medicines and food supplements. The Chinese webshop was also accused of being too little transparent about advertisements and the use of customer data. Those practices go against the European Digital Services Act (DSA).
