Danish discounter Normal opens distribution centre in Spain

Non-food discounter Normal is stepping up its expansion plans in southern Europe with the opening of its first distribution center outside its home country of Denmark. From here, the retailer plans to supply stores in Spain, Portugal, and southern France.

More than 900 stores

Normal is opening a distribution center of almost 40,000 m² in El Pla de Santa María in Catalonia, less than 100 kilometers from Barcelona and close to the French border. It is the retailer’s first DC outside Denmark. The new logistics hub will enable the non-food discounter to supply stores in Spain, Portugal, and southern France.

Normal now has more than 900 stores in nine European countries: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, France, Portugal, Spain, and Italy. The chain is now preparing to launch in Ireland as well. Last year, the company generated a turnover of 1.6 billion euros. The majority shareholder of the chain is Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen, who also owns the fashion group Bestseller and is a shareholder in Asos and Zalando.
