Amazon is looking to transport parcels by high-speed train between Lyon and Paris. This would result in time savings and a smaller carbon footprint, the retailer hopes.
One thousand parcels per train
Twice a day, Amazon would use the TGV between Lyon Perrache and Paris Gare de Lyon stations: packages are placed in the – usually underused – technical compartments of the carriages, which have a capacity of almost three cubic metres. Each train can carry up to a thousand parcels of up to fifteen kilos. Amazon hopes to transport half a million parcels before the year is over in this way, the retailer told French trade medium LSA.
