Dutch supermarket group Jumbo terminates its contract with its main bread supplier Bake Five to reduce purchasing costs. An unprecedented move, as the bakery group has been supplying Jumbo for two decades and is thus heavily dependent on the supermarkets.
No supplier is safe
Jumbo will now opt for Bakkerij Goedhart, part of the family holding Borgesius, which already supplies rival Albert Heijn and serves 40% of the market. For Bake Five, a collaboration of five family businesses, this is a hard blow: the bakers, accounting for 25% market share, lose one of their largest customers.
