A good year after McCain sold Dutch producer of chilled potato specialties CêlaVíta to an investment fund, the company is bankrupt. Whether there will be a restart, in not clear.
Financial problems
CêlaVíta, a pioneer in chilled convenience products such as peeled, pre-steamed and pre-cut potatoes, came into the hands of Canadian French fries manufacturer McCain in 2012. That decided to focus on frozen products, so it sold CêlaVíta to investment fund Nimbus in 2024.
But the company, good for a turnover of about 60 million euros with 2015 employees, was struggling with financial problems and in June announced a reorganization in which it wanted to focus more on French fries. Now it appears that the employees were informed of the bankruptcy on Tuesday afternoon, reports Omroep Gelderland. There would soon be a meeting with the trustee about possible next steps. Whether there is a chance of a relaunch remains unclear.
