Carrefour is going to start selling organic products from its e-commerce player Greenweez in its Belgian stores and webshop. The exclusive partnership hopes to offer shoppers more choice in the organic category, at lower prices.
Economies of scale
The partnership between Greenweez and Carrefour Belgium kicks off with a selection of seventeen Greenweez products: different types of flour, peanut butter, seeds and nuts, gluten-free oatmeal and whole-grain basmati rice. A next wave of Greenweez products will follow in the autumn. The products are available in all hypermarkets and supermarkets, and in some Express convenience stores.
The Greenweez partnership offers economies of scale, Carrefour points out. This allows the retailer to significantly reduce the prices of a number of organic products: almond flour will be more than 35 % cheaper and the price of goji berries will go down by more than 50 %. The Greenweez products complement the existing Carrefour BIO range, which Carrefour calls “the cheapest organic brand in Belgium”. If customers find a similar organic product cheaper elsewhere, they will be refunded the price difference.
The partnership does not come out of the blue: Greenweez, European market leader in e-commerce for organic and ecological products, has been part of the Carrefour group since 2016 and has also been operating in Belgium since 2020.
