Denmark wants to eliminate taxes on coffee and chocolate

The Danish government wants to abolish taxes on coffee and chocolate or candy. The liberal ruling party Venstre announced Wednesday that the measure will become part of the upcoming budget.

Pay less for a pack of coffee

Danish taxes on coffee and chocolate earn the state 2.4 billion Danish krone (about 321.5 million euros) annually, but, according to the liberal Venstre party, they mainly cause more expensive groceries and additional pressure on household budgets. For example, the party calculated that scrapping the levies could reduce the price of a half-kilo pack of coffee by about 6%, the equivalent about 5 kroner (0.66 euros).
