The cyberattack that paralyzed many of Ahold Delhaize’s IT systems for more than a week in October will weigh on the group’s revenue and profits. In the third quarter, the retailer performed slightly better than expected in Europe and slightly worse in the U.S.
Expected profit margin slightly lower
Ahold Delhaize has been forced to slightly lower its full-year forecasts following the cyberattack, which led to the preventive takedown of online stores, apps, and other systems in both Europe and the U.S. in mid-October. The incident is expected to cost the retailer 200 to 250 million euros in revenue. Operating profit will be 75 to 100 million euros lower. The retailer therefore expects an operating profit margin that “will approach” 4%, whereas previously it had projected a margin of “around 4%.”
