Despite ambitious climate goals, Belgian supermarkets continue to actively encourage consumers to adopt diets high in meat and dairy, according to the think tank Questionmark, although Colruyt and Lidl are implementing “promising policies.”
Portions too large
Just as it did in 2022, Questionmark examined in its report “Superlist Environment Belgium 2026” what the five largest supermarkets in Belgium are doing for the climate and the environment. In addition to the topics of climate and the protein transition, the report also provides insight into performance regarding sustainable product offerings and food waste. Lidl and Delhaize top the rankings, followed by Colruyt, Carrefour, and finally Aldi.
