Acquisition of Just Eat Takeaway completed: “The hard work starts now”

Just Eat Takeaway is now truly disappearing from the stock market: Prosus has successfully completed its acquisition of the meal delivery service and wants to press ahead with its transformation.

“Creating a European tech champion”

Prosus has successfully completed the acquisition of Just Eat Takeaway, the company announced in a press release: 90.13% of the shares have been tendered, well above the 80% threshold. The European Commission had already approved the acquisition in August.

CEO Fabricio Bloisi is delighted to welcome the delivery company into the Prosus ecosystem: “JET has a solid foundation, but for Prosus the hard work starts now. Our goal is to act quickly to transform JET through a focus on product, customer and innovation, creating a true European tech champion that will reshape the future of food delivery.”

With the acquisition of Just Eat Takeaway, technology investor Prosus becomes the third-largest meal delivery group in the world. The company, which owns iFood in Brazil and Swiggy in India, among others, will have to reduce its stake in Germany’s Delivery Hero—this was a condition set by the European Commission for allowing JET to be acquired.
