Swiss Saturn-shops converted to Media Markts

Electronics15 April, 2013

‘Bad locations’

Because of this measure, the Saturn shops in Wintertur and Spreitenbach will have to close, because there already is a Media Markt nearby. According to a spokesperson, the
consultation round with employees about the reorganisation will end late April. The 76 employees of the closing shops will be transferred to
other locations as much as possible.

Saturn opened its first Swiss location in 2009,
but they were never as successful as hoped. According to Media Saturn this was
partly due to the choice of bad locations.

Media Markt grows to 25 shops

Because of the reorganisation, the number of
Media Markt locations in Switzerland will rise with four new shops to a total
number of 25
. The chain has been active in Switzerland for twenty years.

The 21 current Media Markt shops and the six Saturn
locations together have 1029 employees and had combined sales of 967 million
Swiss francs
(over 800 million euro) last year. Furthermore the sales in the first
trimester of 2013 went up, says a press release of Media Saturn Switzerland.
