MediaMarkt launches refurbishment program in the Benelux

MediaMarkt is launching its own refurbished label that guarantees the entire chain of trade-in, refurbishment, and sale of used electronics. After a trial in June and July, the project will be rolled out further in the Netherlands and, from November, throughout the Benelux.

Removing barriers

With this initiative, MediaMarkt wants to focus more strongly on the circular economy. The market for refurbished devices is the fastest-growing segment within consumer electronics. Consumers appreciate the affordability and sustainability, but uncertainty about quality and limited availability still pose barriers. The retailer wants to remove these barriers.

“With MediaMarkt Refurbished, we are evolving from an intermediary to a trusted brand in refurbishment that takes control of quality and circularity within the electronics market,” says Patrick van der Linden, Chief Commercial Officer MediaMarkt Benelux, in a press release. Customers trade in used devices for a voucher and then choose a refurbished or new device. Purchases from the refurbished range are also possible without a trade-in. Each device undergoes a technical and cosmetic check and returns to the shelves with the refurbished label.

After a trial period in ten stores in June and July, the nationwide launch in the Netherlands is now underway. The range has since been expanded to include MacBooks, tablets, PlayStations, and smartwatches, among other items. Starting in November, MediaMarkt Refurbished will expand to the rest of the Benelux.

Wingzz China: Chinese robotics and technology have moved beyond the demonstration phase

China is no longer developing technology for trade shows or promotional videos. Instead, the country is developing technology for everyday use: in factories, stores, warehouses, hospitals, cars, and urban networks. European companies no longer need to wonder whether Chinese technology will have an impact, but rather how quickly.
