C&A expands board of directors

Fashion9 September, 2019

Swiss fashion group C&A has expanded its board of directors with Allan Leighton (chairman) and Alexander Birken (director).

Experienced retail professionals

Leighton currently chairs the Co-op Group, but has a long career in retailing: he has also been president of Walmart Europe, CEO of Asda and deputy chair of Selfridges. Outside of retail, he also headed the Royal Mail. Birken on the other side is CEO and chairman of the German former mail order giant Otto Group and was COO of American direct marketing group Spiegel before that.

“With these appointments we are adding two highly experienced retail professionals to C&A AG. Allan Leighton has a strong track record of guiding businesses to adapt rapidly to evolving market and consumer behaviour, which will complement Alexander Birken’s experience in retail and his knowledge of running ecommerce businesses. Together, their experience will bring great value to the business growth strategies of C&A”, said Cofra CEO Boudewijn Beerkens. Cofra is the holding company of C&A, but also of real estate group Redevco.
