Coolblue to launch web shops in other languages

Electronics8 February, 2017

Dutch web shop group Coolblue is looking for translators to “make sure we are ready to conquer the world”. On its job site the company is not only looking for a translator French, but also mentions other languages.

Not only French

Its recent store in Zaventem, which opened in September 2016, meant the company came very close to the French-speaking side of Belgium, but it is now clear the company is actively looking for employees who speak another language. On its job site, the company says it needs a copywriter French and a “word magician”.

Moreover, the company is looking for a “Localization manager”, explicitly charged with making sure that its corporate identity is clear in “all translations”. We were not able to ascertain whether this means the website may get an English and German version as well, but in an interview a few years ago, CEO Pieter Zwart had already stated the very first foreign language would be the biggest hurdle. “Once the internal system is able to handle the transition from one language to two, the step to three or four languages is much smaller”, he said back then.

Its move towards other languages is not a real surprise, because when the company announced it would shut down the hundreds of separate web shops in December, it also mentioned that the “majority of the work has already been done”.
