Italian Ferrero has struck a deal with Unilever to create Kinder ice cream. Unilever already has plenty of experience in that area, with Magnum as one of its most iconic brands.

“Support and expertise from Unilever”

Kinder ice cream should launch in France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2018. Ferrero will give Unilever a license to do so and the latter will handle the manufacturing and distribution on its own. Ferrero will maintain a close watch on the ice cream’s quality.

“This is an important step to consolidate our competitive position in the chocolate and candy market”, Ferrero said. “To take full advantage of this new step, we have sought out Unilever’s support and expertise.” Unilever dominates the global market with a 21 % market share.

Ferrero has been expanding its products’ reach for quite some time. For instance, it opened a Nutella bar in Chicago in May, which sells products with the famous chocolate spread as a base ingredient.
