Media Markt rents out electronics in Germany

Media Markt Germany launched an electronics rental service trial. After a rental period of at least 1 month, the customer can then decide to buy the item.

Online handling

Currently, customers can rent several hundred items, from consoles to televisions, smartphones and cameras, for as long as the customer desires. As soon as the full purchase amount has been spent, the item can be bought for another 3 months’ rental fee.

It costs 60 euros to rent an iPad, while a console costs 8 euros per month. The service is a collaboration with Berlin start-up Grover and the entire handling is taken care of online.

Media Markt Germany says it is only a temporary measure, but it is definitely a trial that may be expanded in time and to other countries if it is considered successful.
