After Delhaize in Belgium confirmed on Monday morning that the refrigeration systems at about 40 supermarkets had been hacked, reports quickly followed from other chains and in other countries. Everything points to a repeat of the hack that occurred in France almost three weeks ago. Who is behind it?
Impact spreads
In Belgium, it is now clear that at least 76 grocery stores were affected by a hack that disrupted the refrigeration and freezer systems, causing temperatures to rise and rendering the goods unsellable. This includes about 40 Delhaize stores—primarily smaller neighborhood and convenience stores under the Shop&Go and Proxy brands—15 Carrefour locations, about 15 Intermarché stores, 5 Spar Colruyt Group stores, and one IKEA location in Mons.
