Consumers appear willing to return shipping packaging, especially when they can easily get their deposit back. That’s the finding of a pilot project by Bpost, Torfs, and Juttu. The challenge is now shifting from consumer behavior to logistics and profitability: who will organize a system that works on a large scale?
80% of bags are returned
Reusable packaging can serve as an alternative to the cardboard boxes and plastic shipping bags that online retailers use to ship millions of orders every day. But for that to happen, consumers must return the packaging. A consortium led by Bpost, shoe retailer Torfs, and fashion chain Juttu set out to eliminate precisely that uncertainty.
