To prove—with the holidays in mind—that good wine doesn’t have to be expensive, Aldi is opening its own pop-up wine bar, Al Divino, in the heart of Antwerp. Visitors can stop by through November 1.
Same prices as in the store
Visitors may not immediately realize that Al Divino is an Aldi initiative, though the name does, of course, give a hint. For the first time, the retailer is bringing a selection of its 33 end-of-year wines from the store shelves to the wine bar, located in a lively nightlife district in Antwerp’s Zuid neighborhood. Non-alcoholic sparkling wine and homemade lemonades are also on the menu, as is a tapas platter featuring appetizer cheese, olives, and chiffonade from its own product range.
The wines are priced the same as in the store. “Since you typically serve six glasses from a bottle at home, we simply divide the retail price of the bottle by six in our wine bar,” says Lieve Conard, head sommelier at Aldi Belgium. A glass of La Capelude Grande Réserve costs 1 euro, while a prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape is served for just 3 euros a glass.
Wines for the holiday season
“For Al Divino, we’ve selected some of our most festive wines for the holiday season, featuring a mix of new offerings and well-known appellations. Each one is a high-quality wine that’s perfect for the holidays—but at a surprisingly competitive price. This way, visitors can discover in advance which wines they’d like to serve at their holiday table,” Conard adds.
