Singapore-based Dutech Holdings, which also owns the Dutch bicycle components manufacturer Enviolo, is acquiring the Dutch operations of the bankrupt bicycle group Accell. The deal includes the iconic brands Batavus, Babboe, and Koga, Accell’s IT platform, and its Hungarian manufacturing facility.
Sixty interested parties, one buyer
Accell, once one of the world’s largest bicycle manufacturers, ran into financial trouble in August. Its downfall began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when demand for electric bicycles soared to record highs. The company placed massive orders for parts, but when the market collapsed after the pandemic, it was left with enormous inventories. The acquisition now offers a lifeline for the three brands, which have been in limbo for months.
