How weight-loss medications are changing the buying behavior of fashion shoppers

The growing use of weight-loss products is having a lasting impact on the fashion industry and the retail sector. Users who lose weight buy new clothes in smaller sizes, but retailers must not neglect shoppers who wear larger sizes.

Shifting purchasing behavior

As more and more people use weight-loss medications such as Ozempic or Mounjaro, the effect is not only visible on supermarket shelves—where the selection of low-calorie, nutritious, and protein-rich meals is growing—or at shoe repair shops, which are seeing a dramatic increase in demand for additional holes in belt loops. Fashion retailers are also experiencing a shift in purchasing behavior.
