Hans Anders halts sales of Meta glasses after privacy controversy

Hans Anders removes Meta’s smart camera glasses from all its stores in the Netherlands and Belgium, with immediate effect, and is also halting online sales. The opticians’ chain is responding to the growing privacy controversy surrounding the Meta glasses, now that Dutch hospitals and the Ministry of Defense are also implementing stricter measures.

A temporary pause?

Hans Anders refers to this as a temporary sales halt. The retailer first wants to wait and see how the social and political discussion about the camera glasses evolves. “We take these signals seriously and see that this is developing into a social and political discussion,” the company told the Dutch newspaper AD. The glasses may return to the product lineup at a later date.
