Belgians are increasingly doing their grocery shopping on Sundays. This is good news for supermarkets and neighborhood store chains, but independent bakers, butchers, and other specialty shops are already losing sales.
Up by two-thirds
In the first seven months of 2026, Sunday accounted for 5.7% of Belgian purchases of everyday consumer goods, according to figures from YouGov published by Le Soir. In the same period of 2025, that share was 5.1%, compared to 4.5% in 2024. YouGov expects this share to rise further in the coming years to about 7% of all purchases of everyday consumer goods.
