Nike shareholders have rejected a proposal calling for greater transparency regarding the sports brand’s climate goals. However, investors did approve the controversial compensation package for top management.
Sustainability under pressure
The proposal from asset manager Green Century Capital Management asked Nike to explain more clearly how it plans to meet its 2030 emissions targets. In 2019, the sports brand pledged to reduce emissions from its own operations by 65% by 2030 and those in its supply chain by 30%. In its report for fiscal year 2024, Nike stated that emissions in the supply chain were 11% lower than in the base year of 2015.
