Ikea is heading into the city for secondhand goods: in Utrecht, the home furnishings chain is launching a partnership with the Dutch recycling chain Droppie, where consumers can now turn in used Ikea products in exchange for a gift card.
Accessibility is a challenge
Starting now, customers can drop off used Ikea furniture and accessories at three Droppie locations in Utrecht. The products are then sent to the Ikea store in Utrecht, where employees inspect them, price them, and resell them in its secondhand corner. This marks the first time the chain has rolled out its buyback service outside its own stores.
