Delhaize claims first with summer cooking camps for children

Delhaize

This summer, Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize is organizing “Little Lion” summer cooking camps for children. During the camp week, young participants will learn how to prepare simple and budget-friendly recipes step by step.

Learning good eating habits

According to Delhaize, this is a first in Belgium: the company is the first retailer to organize cooking camps where 6- to 14-year-olds can experience in a playful way how fun, easy, and affordable cooking can be. “What started as a popular budget-friendly line of private label products is growing into an initiative that brings families closer together,” says the retailer.

With the cooking camps, Delhaize wants to teach children good eating habits and show them that cooking delicious meals doesn’t have to be complicated. For the Kleine Leeuw cooking camps, the retailer is collaborating with two professional camp organizers.

Building on the success of Little Lions

The ambition is to organize at least one full-week cooking camp in each Belgian province – a total of ten camps. An average of 10 to 20 children can participate in each camp. A total of around 1,600 children can participate this summer. The target price is between €165 and €195, with SuperPlus cardholders receiving a 30% discount.

“Our Little Lions range – more than 1,200 daily private label products at competitive prices – proves that shopping at Delhaize is often cheaper than people think. Due to its great success, the range was also substantially expanded last year. The cooking camps build on that success: they show that tasty and affordable cooking is really accessible to everyone,” says Jo Boone, Campaign & Media Manager at Delhaize.
