Investment fund Kharis Capital, owner of more than 1,200 Quick, Burger King, and O’Tacos restaurants, is becoming the largest shareholder in Belgian healthy meal producer Foodmaker. The aim is to give the restaurant division a boost.
“The McDonald’s of healthy food”
Until now, Foodmaker was owned by founder and CEO Lieven Vanlommel and Stefan Wernsing of the German family business Wernsing Food Group. Now, almost half of the shares are in the hands of Kharis Capital. The new shareholder wants to open Foodmaker restaurants in France, Belgium, and Germany. “I have always said that Foodmaker should become the McDonald’s of healthy food, but that is not possible if you only have 23 locations,” Vanlommel told business newspaper De Tijd.
