Up to 80 tech jobs under threat at Nike Belgium

Nike is planning to cut up to 80 of the 176 jobs in the Technology department of its European Logistics Campus (ELC) in Belgium. That number may end up lower, though, following consultation rounds.

After announcing it wants to cut jobs in its Technology department in Ham and Laakdal. In a further update, the management announced it wants to cut up to eighty jobs, including data analysts, software programmers and IT profiles.

However, both unions and management are counting on some of those jobs still being retained. Next week, a group will start consultation rounds with employees. These discussions should reveal whether employees will be able to find work elsewhere within the company by the end of September.

With its so-called Global Technology Transformation, Nike wants to streamline its IT operations worldwide. This exercise has already taken place in the United States and several other countries; it is now Belgium’s turn. The Technology department consists of different services, including the service desk and data analysis.

The ELC employs 5,000 people, making it the largest employer in the Kempen region. The centre handles deliveries to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
