Shopify has added a guideline to its platform, limiting the use of agentic AI. Fully autonomous purchasing bots are not welcome on the platform, it states in a remarkable statement.
Limits on AI Automation
Shopify has included new guidelines in the robots.txt file of the online stores it hosts, aiming to limit uncontrolled AI automation. The new instruction states that automated scraping, ‘buy-for-me’ agents and other end-to-end processes where payment is completed without a final verification step, are not allowed.
