Chinese chain Luckin Coffee is boosting its global ambitions by opening its first takeaway shops in the United States. The company wants to challenge Starbucks as global market leader.
Suitable test market
Last Monday, Luckin Coffee opened two branches in New York City: a remarkable move by the Chinese market leader in a saturated market dominated by Starbucks. “The US is a strategically important market in Luckin Coffee’s global layout”, Luckin CEO Guo Jinyi told China Daily. Observers see New York as a suitable test market for the coffee chain’s US ambitions.
