In Hamburg last week, MediaMarkt opened Europe’s very largest electronics shop, with seven experience zones where customers can test products, and a sensational gaming experience.

‘Creating unforgettable shopping experiences’

The Tech Village in Hamburg, with 47 branded boutiques on 15,000 m², sets the new standard for the future: MediaMarkt aims to have around 20 of these flagship stores in Europe by the financial year 2025/26. A Tech Village is also planned in Belgium in the medium term, says Remko Rijnders, CEO of MediaMarkt in the Benelux.

‘Our goal is to create unforgettable shopping experiences, exactly what our customers need. Besides expanding our online propositions, we are investing in our physical shops and focusing on the right format in the right place. The underlying idea is that MediaMarkt is increasingly becoming a platform where it offers its customers an unparalleled experience and assortment.’

130 gaming stations

Brands such as Anker, Apple, DeLonghi, Dyson, LG, Philips, Samsung and Sony present their latest innovations here. Lego and Mattel have created a huge Barbie boutique. MediaMarkt also operates eight own boutiques, including around its ‘BetterWay’ sustainability programme, e-mobility, vinyl and – a first at the retailer – Yamaha musical instruments.

In seven experience zones across four floors, visitors can try out the latest products. Lego displays a life-size replica of a Lamborghini, DeLonghi presents a coffee world and Samsung brings the latest home appliances and televisions. There is also a Nespresso coffee bar with seating.

On the fourth floor, ‘Xperion’ offers a comprehensive gaming experience on about 3,500 m², with 130 professionally equipped gaming stations and an event arena with almost 200 seats, a large stage and an LED wall. Influencers and streamers can use the video and podcast studio.

Misleading Black Friday discounts: rule rather than exception?

Black Friday discounts are often misleading. In the Netherlands, no less than three-quarters of retailers misrepresent their discounts. In Belgium, a quarter of the promotions offered by electronics retailers such as Coolblue and MediaMarkt are said to mislead customers.
