German discounter Lidl is appointing new CEOs for a number of countries, including Belgium, Hungary and Romania. The reshuffle is the result of the reorganisation at Lidl’s headquarters earlier this week.
Musical chairs
Matúš Gála, the Slovak national who has headed Lidl’s Belgian operations since May 2022, is moving to the discounter’s international headquarters in Neckarsulm. It is not yet known who will succeed him.
He is not the only one to be given a new position: shortly after it was announced that CEO Kenneth McGrath was reshuffling his executive team, it appears that there is a veritable game of musical chairs going on in Europe.
Hungarian CEO Jenő Grósz is also moving to headquarters, German trade magazine Lebensmittel Zeitung reports. He will be succeeded by Zita Szlavikovics, the current head of Lidl in Slovakia. Ivan Udiljak, former country head in Slovenia, will take over her post. Boris Lozić will then take over again in Slovenia, in combination with his current job as head of Lidl Croatia.
Alessandro Wolf will also move to the head office and be succeeded as Austria CEO by Michael Kunz. Finally, Romanian national Marco Guidici will be succeeded in Spain by COO José Alberto Chueca Val.
