Kaufland ends year-long Unilever delisting

German retailer Kaufland will re-introduce Unilever‘s products after a year-long absence. Almost a year ago, the supermarket chain ended its relationship with the FMCG group following a disagreement over prices.

2 % of turnover

A Kaufland spokesman has confirmed that there is a new agreement between the parties, putting an end to the conflict. The first Unilever products should be back on the shelves by the end of November, but it is going to take until the end of January before the range is once more complete, Stimme.de writes. Kaufland has an annual turnover of 22.6 billion euros, around 2 % of which came from Unilever brands.

At the end of last year, however, Kaufland took the decision to drop all Unilever products in response to “drastic price increases” and “unilateral changes in conditions”. Brands such as Axe, Ben & Jerry’s, Coral, Dove and Unox therefore became no longer available at the German retailer.

It is not known who has had to back down the most to reach an agreement. “In principle, we do not comment on confidential agreements with our trading partners”, a Unilever spokesperson said.
