Discussion about legal warranty
The entire argument revolves around Apple’s legal warranty, because the American producer of the iPhone only gives a one year guarantee on all of its products, while Belgian law states that consumers have a right to 2 years of guarantee. When customers wanted more than one year, Apple charged them a fee and that was illegal.
That is when the Ministry of Economy filed a complaint with the examining magistrate, who demanded all Belgian internet providers to block every Apple website until the company accepted two years of guarantee for all of its products. The demand was sent out last year, but was only revealed now.
The magistrate retracted his decision, because it was impossible to block the websites without incapacitating services like iTunes, so that is why another solution is being looked at. Apple has uploaded a document to its website last year, saying that every Belgian consumer gets two years of guarantee, but it remains to be seen whether the magistrate and the FPS Economy deem this to be enough, especially as the document cannot be found that easily.
