Colruyt was not included in the remarkable price comparison published by Delhaize on Thursday morning. The retailer considers this “unfortunate” and decided to calculate the price differences itself.
“Delhaize shopping cart 11.55% more expensive”
In newspaper advertisements, Delhaize compares the prices of 31 basic private label products with those of Carrefour, Lidl, and Intermarché, but not with those of Colruyt Lowest Prices. That is why the market leader took matters into its own hands: the editors of RetailDetail received an Excel spreadsheet showing the price difference per product between Colruyt’s private labels and those of Delhaize and the other chains.
“In the specific comparison in the Delhaize brochure, the Delhaize private labels of the products listed are still 1.35 euros more expensive than all these Colruyt private labels combined,” said spokeswoman Maria Clara Geurs. Specifically, the total for Colruyt comes to €45.10, compared to €46.45 at Delhaize, €46.57 at Lidl, €52.30 at Carrefour, and €48.41 at Intermarché.
“At the end of 2025, a full shopping cart at Delhaize was, according to our own price surveys, no less than 11.55% more expensive than at Colruyt, at Carrefour the difference was 12.47%, and at Lidl 6.32%,” the company adds.
