More choice in frozen foods: 1 + 1 = 3

Food2 February, 2024

(Advertorial) Food retailers are always looking for ways to convince customers to purchase more than just their usual shopping list. Meanwhile, customers want new ideas and products. Category management within the retail sector is faced with the challenge of meeting these demands by offering the best possible range of products. One limiting factor here is the sales floor. Space here is limited and valuable. Liebherr is helping to expand the space available for frozen goods.

In the frozen-food area of discounters in particular, a combination of chest freezers with freezer tops above is the classic solution – either as an island or mounted to a wall. Retailers can make even better use of this space with the new ‘Cliff’ plug-in multideck freezer from Liebherr. ‘We are not looking to replace the very successful combination of chest freezers and freezer tops, but rather find a new way to combine and enhance them’, says Oliver Posch, Head of Sales Food Retail Western & Eastern Europe at Liebherr. ‘Plug-in appliances in particular have the advantage of being comparatively easy to install and are cheaper to maintain than remote freezers.’

Experience in recent years has shown that a shop’s chest freezer is indispensable for certain goods, such as food sold in large bags. However, these groceries are often the ones that customers already have on their shopping lists. These aren’t the products that need to be promoted to customers. To convince customers to put more in their trolleys, product variety and visibility is needed. Liebherr wants to offer a new approach for this.

Even food retailers who do not want to expand their selection and therefore increase the number of product lines they carry can benefit from this combination. The increased net volume means that they will not need to restock the freezers as frequently. This gives the employees who would usually be restocking more time to be used elsewhere.

‘We are very happy to offer our customers and any other interested parties solutions on how to make better use of their available space’, says Oliver Posch. ‘One of these is an island of chest freezers with a row of “Cliff” multideck freezers opposite. This combination of multideck and chest freezers has the advantage of offering an increase of up to 25 percent in the net volume available to present goods compared to the frequently used combination of chest freezers and freezer tops, when used across the same number of linear metres. All of this with almost the same investment costs and lower energy consumption.’

Oliver Posch invites you to do the maths together: ‘Let’s give category management more space and customers more choice. This way, we can make 1 + 1 = 3!’
